MAVERIC (Michigan and Vanderbilt Educational Robotic Collaborative) was piloted in Spring 2021 to incorporate deliberate video review of surgical videos. Review of surgical videos have demonstrated the ability to recover lost teaching in the operating room, review higher level concepts such as decision making, and the ability to supplement surgical preparation. In each session, experts focus on a specific case and dissect the salient aspects. Trainees review their surgical videos and critically analyze the steps of the case. This allows for discussion of ways to improve exposure, understand the intraoperative thought process, better utilize assistants, understand tissue handling and more.
